I have a LAS file, how can I use it as reference in Correlator3D?

Our team also collect LiDAR data, we have a LAS file that we would like to use to generate a DSM and also find it out if it is possible to co-register with our photos.

Hello Miguel,

Sure, I would be happy to answer your question. To use a LiDAR (.las) file as reference in Correlator3D, it must be split and converted into two different formats. One will be a raster image used as input reference ortho for XY anchoring. The other will be an elevation grid used for anchoring the Z value. In Correlator3D, go to File > Import > LIDAR LAS Files.

Add the las/laz files, then select the “Extract DEM” option and the “Extract Image (Reference Ortho)” option, you can also adjust your desired resolution. Once imported and converted, the DEM and Reference Ortho can both be used to create manual ground control points.

There is also an option to perform a tie point extraction to connect the images with the reference Ortho, and to run a bundle adjustment with option "Reference orthos with current DEM". Run an orthorectification with the reference DEM selected, finally, run the mosaic creation step. At this point, there should be a LiDAR based aerotriangulated orthomosaic.

For additional information feel free to review our documentation on Correlator3D LiDAR workflow

Thanks David, this tool is a lifesaver, it saved us a ton of time, we had tight window to deliver the results, and this came right on time! I'll be definitely using this workflow moving forward.
