Best true orthorectification results

I have been working on a project, where I am testing different methods when generating a true ortho, I have been working mainly with the DSM resolution and I am quite satisfied with the optimal resolution suggested by C3D, which I believe is five times our GSD.

if you guys have any additional tips it would be great to hear them...

Thanks,

Brodie

Hey Brodie,

Its a very good topic, I can confirm the optimal resolution typically outputs a "less noisy" DEM, allowing for less editing of the raster prior to orthorectifying. I do edit certain noise around building edges as well as water to create a better surface.

After the orthos are produced, I run a QC to disable any orthos that could compromise the overall quality of a building or feature in the final mosaic, this step has given my excellent results.

I hope the helps you...

Hey Guys,

Great advises! I have one more for you guys. When generating your DEM also generate a point cloud with 6 observations. Once the point cloud is complete and saved, import it back into C3D by accessing: File>Import>LiDAR LAS File, and generate a new DEM extracted from the point cloud you just generated, this new DEM typically is sharper and optimal for True Orthorectification.

As a final tip, I usually remove any outlier points before importing the LAS file, you can easily do this in C3D by accessing the tools in: Processes>Point Cloud filtering, and filter by elevation, however, feel free to use the option needed.
