DEM edit tool

Hello,

I am processing a heavy forested area, the DEM looks red, which I assume are elevation spikes due to the terrain we are trying to map, I wonder if there is way to edit in DEM editor? I also have a LAS file for this area, perhaps you would recommend using that?

Ruben,

I am working a similar project and noticed the same "spikes" you mentioned, this is due to the terrain, however, I also collected LiDAR, I would highly recommend importing he LAS or LAZ file and generate your DEM from this input, the amount of editing was reduced and the surface looks quite good.

As a final comment, I had some water, which I used the editor tool / set elevation to fill in the gaps.

I hope this helps...

Ross

Hi guys,

Indeed, this occurs when there are too many extreme elevation values (high or low), affecting the overall shading of the DSM. Yes, Ruben you are able to edit and remove these "spikes" in the DEM editor module, I typically snap to a given elevation and use the "delete and fill" option.

As a final tip, try to target smaller areas where the elevation values are more extreme, then proceeding with other small areas.

Right on, guys. I was able to correct the red looking DSM, I generated a DTM and it looks very good, I will be using this to orthorectify. so far project is looking great.

Thanks for the help.

Ruben.
